Reverend Oscar Mukahanana was commissioned as the seventh Harare East District (HED) Superintendent at a ceremony held at Chisipite United Methodist Church, Harare on Sunday February 11, 2018.

The clergy and laity from the length and breadth of the Zimbabwe Episcopal Area of The United Methodist Church witnessed the ceremony. Bishop Eben Kanukayi Nhiwatiwa presided over the commissioning of the former Zimre Park Circuit Pastor In Charge and HED Connectional Ministries Director amidst rainy conditions in the capital.

Following the commissioning, DS Rev Mukahanana delivered his debut sermon preaching the gospel of love to the district as the definitive symbol of true Christianity.

Symbolically in his opening remarks, he paid tribute to his predecessor Reverend Joseph Bonga whom he closely worked with during the latter’s three years in charge of the district.

After the sermon, the new member of the Cabinet oversaw the Holy Communion service ably assisted by his newest Cabinet colleagues, amongst them fellow new member Rev Pauline Nyamudzura of Marange District.

Engineer Ben Rafemoyo was the Guest of Honour at the event, urging the new DS to seek wisdom and have a vision as he discharges his new role.

Circuits he led and districts from both Zimbabwe East (ZEAC) and West (ZWAC) Annual Conferences all graced the occasion with the host district later hosting a welcome reception in his honour after the commissioning service.

Mrs. Irene Maunganidze was the Guest of Honour at the reception.

The Cranborne Young Couples Choir again proved why they are the choir for the big occasions with a classy performance which captured the imagination of those present.

The choir again wowed the audience at the commissioning of Rev Bonga and never disappointed at the second time of asking.

Rev Oscar Mukahanana was born on 21 December 1976 in Mutasa District, attaining his primary and secondary education at Mount Jenya schools.

At both primary and secondary schools, he rose through the ranks to become school captain, at the same time being active in the church which saw him being elected the United Methodist Youth Fellowship President for Mundenda Circuit between 1991 and 1993.

His call to ministry came in 1988 and was nurtured until 1997 before being first appointed to Mutasa Circuit at Assistant Pastor.

He served as Pastor in Charge at Mutasa West (1998-2000), Nyanga North (2001), St Mark Chipinge (2005-2008), Station Chairperson at Mutambara Mission Centre (2009-2011) and Zimre Park (2012-2017).

Before being ordained as an elder in 2007, he graduated with a Diploma in Theology and a Diploma in Religious Studies at the United Theological College and the University of Zimbabwe respectively.

He has served twice as Connectional Ministries Director for Chimanimani Chipinge District (2007 – 2009) and Harare East District (2014-2017).
