On January 12th, 2025, the Mapuranga residence in Shamva overflowed with family and friends, all gathered to pay their final, heartfelt respects to Jane Catherine Mapuranga. Gogo Jane passed on last Friday the 10th and she was the beloved mother of Southgate Circuit Pastor in Charge Rev. R. Mapuranga. She left behind a legacy brimming with love, wisdom, and warmth. She was 68.

Close relatives confided that the sudden departure of their Heroine, Gogo Mapuranga, felt like an unreal dream. The Mapuranga family suffered an irreplaceable loss—Jane was not only a mother and grandmother but also an aunt and a cherished friend. Born in Mutare, Jane was a dedicated teacher who eventually became the headmistress at Nyagande Primary School. She married Gilbert Mapuranga, together they raised four daughters and three sons, and they were blessed with eighteen grandchildren and one great-grandson. Jane was so much more than an educator; she was a multi-talented individual, excelling in baking and farming. A devout member of the United Methodist Church, Jane’s faith was evident in every aspect of her life.

The family home was bursting with love, as friends, neighbors, and well-wishers from near and far gathered to honor her memory. Pastor in Charge of Uzumba North Circuit, Rev. Isaac Madondo gave the word of the day whilst Rev C Marangwanda led the service. Also in attendance were United Methodist Church(UMC) District Superintendents DS O Kaseke (Harare Central District [HCD]), DS E Mashero (Byo-Midlands), DS P Mazumba (Murehwa-UMP) , DS HJ Zisengwe (Mutoko-Mudzi) and pastors from within HCD and other districts. The service was also attended by village headsmen, and representatives from the local MP’s office.

Emotional tributes painted a vivid picture of Jane’s life. Rev. Rudo Mapuranga, one of her daughters, poignantly remarked, “In Her Footsteps, A Legend Is Gone, A Warrior Is Noattendance were United Methodist Church More, A Hero Has Fallen, And A Virtuous Woman Has Departed.” She highlighted her mother’s strength and resilience, calling her a great missionary who profoundly transformed their lives.

Mai Chiwota, a close friend from the local church, shared touching memories of Jane’s generosity and love. She recalled how Jane supported her during tough times, paying her transport fare to church—a gesture she cherished as a final, loving goodbye.

Jane’s impact went beyond her immediate circle, reaching even those in political spheres. A representative of the MP recounted how Jane taught her to pray and care for orphans.

Jane’s husband, Mr. G. Mapuranga, shared a heartwarming testimony, describing his beloved wife as a soft-spoken, yet Godly guide. He cherished the children they raised and the deep love they shared. With a heart full of gratitude, he sang “Anogona Jesu,” reflecting on the love God showered upon them.

The day was filled with laughter, tears, and heartfelt stories, as people reminisced about Jane’s kindness and humor. Popular UMC MUMC singers Bright Gombakomba and Tafadzwa Tsiga , along with their team, sang from the early hours of Sunday until the time of the burial, celebrating Jane’s life through music.

The community’s outpouring of love and support was a testament to Gogo Jane Mapuranga’s profound impact on their lives. All who knew her will deeply and dearly miss her. MAY HER SOUL REST IN PEACE.
