Story By: Mrs A. Mvududu
All roads led to St Peters UMC in Mutare on 21 June for the winning RRW choirs in the Zimbabwe East Annual Conference (ZEAC) districts. The choirs descended on Mutare to take part in the festival that saw 9 Group B choirs and 11 Group A choirs from the ZEAC districts. St. James Dangamvura went away with the first prize.
All the choirs were smartly dressed in their uniforms made from the different Ebenezer Convention materials. It was indeed a sight to behold.
The President of the RRW in the Zimbabwe Episcopal Area Mrs Greater Nhiwatiwa graced the occasion and was on hand to present trophies and prizes to the winning choirs.
The occasion was also graced by a number of District Superintendents as well as pastors in charge of the participating circuits. The newly-wed Rev Matara of Greendale circuit and his wife braved the cold to support their circuit’s choir despite the fact that he is still on leave having recently come back from his honeymoon.
In the Group A choirs category the following choirs advanced to the Zimbabwe Episcopal area festivals St. James Dangamvura, King David, St. Johns Chikanga, Cranborne and St. Stephens Chitungwiza in that order. Nyakatsapa, Old Mutare and Nyanyadzi were the choirs from rural circuits which will battle it out on 26 July with choirs from the Zimbabwe west annual conference.
The best dressed choir trophy went to Greendale circuit and the best choir director went to Cranborne both from Harare East District. The adjudicators said the level of music they listened to from most of the choirs was astounding.
The Episcopal Area festival is much awaited and it will be the battle between the Eastern and Western music giants. This year’s set piece is Baba Wedu Tinoimba.
